Mr. Ron Milam recently retired as a Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) with 20 years of combined service with the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) and the U.S. Army. His most recent assignment was at the Defense Health Agency (DHA) under the Department of Defense (DoD), as the Program Management Branch Chief in the Analytics and Evaluation Division. He also worked as a Liaison Officer between the DHA and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Prior to those assignments, Mr. Milam served as an Advisor for the Environmental Health Portfolio to former Assistant Secretary for Health, Dr. Howard Koh; former Deputy Assistant Secretary for Minority Health, Dr. Nadine Gracia; and served as an Aide-De-Camp to former U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Regina Benjamin. Mr. Milam’s role helped reinvigorate federal actions on Environmental Justice. He and his colleagues represented HHS on the Interagency Working Group on Environmental Justice (EJ IWG). The EJ IWG was led by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) along with 17 interagencies with the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ).
Prior to his advisor role, Mr. Milam worked as an Environmental Health Scientist with the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (CDC/ATSDR), the DeKalb Board of Health in Atlanta and Vanderbilt University in Environmental Health and Safety/Radiation Safety Department in Nashville and started his career as an enlisted medic in the U.S. Army, 4th Infantry Division.
